House Republican Campaign Committee Announces Lisa Sparks Reaches First Step of Young Guns Program
Irvine, CA- Today, Orange County Board of Education Trustee Dr. Lisa Sparks was named as an “On the Radar” candidate by the National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC). “On the Radar” is the first step in the NRCC’s Young Guns program which recognizes and assists strong Republican challengers in competitive seats.
The founding Dean of the School of Communication at Chapman University, Dr. Sparks entered public service in 2018 when she was elected to serve as the Trustee of the Orange County Board of Education’s 5th district, which overlaps 35% of the 45th congressional district. Sparks won her race overwhelmingly and was the top vote-getter earning 56.8% of the vote, with over 80,000 votes, in a field of five candidates.
“I’ve dedicated my life to giving back to my community and working to ensure our Orange County students have bright futures full of hope and opportunity that can lead each and every student to a viable pathway to college. I’m running for Congress because our nation is at a crossroads and as a mom and educator I am concerned about the future for our children and grandchildren. Like many of you, I want my children to be able to afford to stay and live in our beloved Orange County. I’ll fight to rein in unnecessary and irresponsible government spending, lower taxes, and promote important policies that lead to a strong economy with great jobs that can sustain and support our families,” said Dr. Sparks.
“Lisa is well positioned to wage a strong and competitive race to win the primary and take on ultra-liberal Katie Porter, who has clearly demonstrated she is out-of-touch with her district,” said general consultant Sam Oh.
The Sparks for Congress campaign previously announced the endorsements of Orange County State Legislators Tyler Diep and Phillip Chen.
California’s 45th congressional district is formerly represented by U.S. Representative Mimi Walters and includes the cities and communities of Coto de Caza, Irvine, Tustin, Lake Forest, Laguna Woods, Laguna Hills, Mission Viejo, Rancho Santa Margarita, Villa Park, and portions of Anaheim and Orange.
